Effects of Hypoxia, and the Balance between Enrichment, on Coastal Fishes and Fisheries Hypoxia and
نویسنده
چکیده
A reduct ion in dissolved oxygen concentrat ion is one of the most important direct effects of nutrient over-enrichment of coastal waters on fishes. Because hypoxia can cause nlortality~ reduced growth rates, and altered distributions and behaviors o f fishes, as wel l as changes in the relative importance o f organisms andpathways of carbon f low within f o o d webs, hypoxia and anoxia can lead to large reductions in the abundance, diversity, and harvest of f ishes within af fected waters. Nutr ient enrichment , however, typically increases prey abundance in more highly oxygenated surface waters and beyond the boundaries of the hypoxic zone. Because o f this mosaic of high and low oxygen areas within a system~ not only the actual oxygen concentration of bottom waters, but the spatial arrangement, predictability, and persistence of highly oxygenated~ high productivity habitats~ and the ability of f ishes to locate and use those favorable habitats~ will de termine the ultimate effect of low oxygen on fish populat ions. Negative effects of hypoxia on fish, habitat, and f o o d webs potential ly nlake both fish populatiolts and entire systenls more susceptible to additional anthropogenic and natural s tmssors .

Effect of hypoxia, normoxia and hyperoxia conditions on gill histopathology in two weight groups of beluga (Huso huso)
The influence of dissolved oxygen concentration on gill histopathology of great sturgeon (Huso huso) was evaluated in two weight classes (initial weight 280.9?49.2 g and 1217.9?138.1 g respectively). Oxygen treatments included hypoxia (2-3 mg/l), normoxia (5-6 mg/l) and hyperoxia (9-10 mg/l). The fish were acclimated to experimental tanks for one week then randomly distributed into 9 tanks i...
متن کاملEFFECTS OF HYPOXIC HYPOXIA AND CARBON MONOXIDE-INDUCED HYPOXIA ON THE CARDIOVASCULAR SYSTEM AND REGIONAL BLOOD FLOW OF THE ANESTHETIZED CAT
The purpose of this study was to investigate the potential responses of the cardiovascular system and regional blood flow to hypoxic hypoxia (BB) and to carbon monoxide (CO)-induced hypoxia (COH). Ten anesthetized cats were studied under two nonnoxic (control: CONT) and two hypoxic conditions. Four types of radioactive micro spheres were used to measure regional blood flow during CONT an...

Background & Aims: Hypoxia is the most common cause of seizures in the neonatal period. Seizure induced by hypoxia cause permanent increases in excitability of neurons and by changing in activity and synaptic plasticity leads to memory impairment. Crocins (Crocus sativus L.) is a water-soluble carotenoid and is the most important active components of saffron. Most studies indicate that crocin h...

Background & Aims: Hypoxia and exercise training increase the capillary density of the muscle and the heart and is one of the important reasons for the development of aerobic exercise and the prevention and treatment of many diseases. The purpose of this study was to compare the effects of simulated heights and aerobic training on PGC-1α angiogenesis in the heart tissue. Materials & Methods: T...
متن کاملA new analysis of hypoxia tolerance in fishes using a database of critical oxygen level (Pcrit)
Hypoxia is a common occurrence in aquatic habitats, and it is becoming an increasingly frequent and widespread environmental perturbation, primarily as the result of anthropogenic nutrient enrichment and climate change. An in-depth understanding of the hypoxia tolerance of fishes, and how this varies among individuals and species, is required to make accurate predictions of future ecological im...
